How to update Samsung Galaxy Express I8730 to Official Android 4.1.2 Jellybean XWAMC4
We have a good news for the Samsung Galaxy Express I8730 users. From now on they can easily update their device with the latest firmware of Jellybean 4.1.2 version of firmware (named XWAMC4). You should know that this is an official release coming from Samsung and it comes with great improvements such as bug fixes for the Play Store and Camera improvements and also with the Battery mode for a greater battery life. Let’s take them one by one (it is important to follow them chronologically).
First you should backup all your data you want to keep in the Galaxy Express. In case the data gets corrupted or it disappears, you should follow the tips here in order to restore. According to the type of data we have:
- SMS : use the option “SMS Backup & Restore app”
- Contacts: you should follow the Sync with the Gmail application,
- Call Log – use the Call Log and Restore
- Images, Songs, Videos, Files – copy them to the internal or external SD card
- APN or MMS Settings – Use the following path: “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Next, after you are sure all of your data is backed up accordingly, proceed to enabling the USB Debugging Mode in your computer. You can do this by following the path: “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”.
Also, you should have your battery charged at least 50%, otherwise you might experience problems such as having to start all over.

Step by step tutorial on how to update your Samsung Galaxy EXPRESS with the Jellybean 4.1.2 XWAMC4 Firmware:
Step 1: You should have the Firmware Package of Jellybean and the Odin installed on your computer. You can follow the links provided: Jellybean 4.1.2 XWAMC4 Firmware Package and Odin in order to save them in your computer. Save them on an easy to be accessed partition – for instance desktop.Next, open the Odin tool on your computer and be sure you have the KIES installed in your system, as the drivers should be on the computer.
Step 2: Now you should boot the device in Download mode. For this, the Galaxy Express should be turned off. In order to enter the download mode for this device, press and hold the volume down button and the home key button (which is the middle button). At the same time switch on the device. The moment you see the Green robot which shows the download mode, press the volume up key in order to confirm.
Step 3:After your Galaxy Express has entered the Download Mode, connect the phone to the computer using a USB cable in order to see the ID COM section in Odin turning Yellow / Green. The COM section color change of ID will indicate that the needed drivers are installed accordingly.
Step 4: Now you should Click on the ”PDA” option in ODIN in order to select the tar file which will help you extract the firmware package. There you have to click start and the process of firmware update will initialize.
Step 5: After 4-5 minutes the update will apply. You will recognize the moment, as the device will be automatically rebooted.
Note: If the device gets into boot loop sequence or it simply gets stuck in the welcome screen, you should insert the battery and follow the instructions starting with step 1.
You can check if the firmware update has been successfully applied by using the following path:Settings > About Phone > Firmware Version”. The displayed firmware version should be Jellybean 4.1.2 XWAMC4
